TYPO3 Education Committee Sprint, April 2026

The TYPO3 Education Committee gathered in Lübeck, Germany, for a three-day working sprint to update its certification program for TYPO3 v14. Here's a look at what the team accomplished — and what's coming in August.

Shortly before the release of TYPO3 version 14, the TYPO3 Education Committee gathered for an intensive working sprint. The primary goal was to coordinate the four task forces responsible for developing the TYPO3 CMS certifications for editor (TCCE), integrator (TCCI), developer (TCCD), and consultant (TCCC).

We met in Lübeck, Germany, where the University of Lübeck kindly provided us with a fully equipped conference room for three days — an ideal environment that allowed us to work productively throughout.

Building on a Strong Foundation

We were able to build on solid groundwork from previous efforts. In particular, the clean-up of the v13 skill trees carried out during our sprint in February proved to be a valuable foundation.

The numerous new features in TYPO3 v14 naturally have an impact on the certifications. To meet the high quality standards we set for our work, we draw from a workflow developed and continuously refined over recent years.

Updating the Skill Trees

The process begins by incorporating the changes of the new version into the skill tree and linking them logically. This helps us arrange the skills required for successful certification in a meaningful order. The skill trees are not rebuilt from scratch with each version; instead, we remove nodes that are no longer relevant and insert new ones at the appropriate position.

For candidates, this has a concrete benefit: the logical structure allows them to acquire all skills in a coherent sequence, without encountering prerequisites that have not yet been covered. Those who have already prepared for an earlier version can also immediately identify which changes are relevant for the new version.

Reviewing and Refreshing Exam Questions

Once the skill trees have been updated, the task forces review the existing exam questions for accuracy and relevance. Some questions are retired, others are revised, and new questions are created for newly added skills.

Every question — whether existing or newly created — goes through a defined lifecycle: from the initial idea through content and language review, version verification, and finally approval. This process ensures consistent quality throughout.

This year, we are piloting an AI-assisted approach to identifying questions affected by version changes. We expect this to help us spot relevant questions more quickly and reliably. The AI's role is strictly limited to flagging questions and providing reasons why a revision may be needed. Human-in-the-loop and a rigorous two-person review principle remain central elements of our process.

What Comes Next

During the sprint, we established the key foundations for a successful launch of the v14 certifications and began putting these steps into practice. The task forces are now working at full speed on their respective certifications to ensure we can release a high-quality update on schedule.

The release date for the new certifications based on TYPO3 v14 has been set for August — we will roll out the new version during the TYPO3 Developer Days in Karlsruhe, Germany. Reserve your spot if you want to be one of the first!
