Engagement in the Team Ideas Remained Rather Low
Only one volunteer reached out to us to implement one of the three team ideas, and we’re grateful for their initiative. Because of this, the BCC decided to allocate the budget to this idea, even though it didn’t rank first. The idea Update the Educational Sitepackage Extension and Tutorial for TYPO3 v14, submitted by the Documentation Team, will be implemented by Karsten Nowak. Thanks to this contribution! As a result, the three top Community Ideas were granted their budgets.
We have taken note of the participation levels and will be refining and improving the process for the next round to better encourage engagement.
Summary of the Four Selected Ideas
Starting in Q4/2025, all funded ideas are seeking to align with the high-level objectives of the strategic goals for TYPO3 v14. The following four Ideas clearly demonstrate how they contribute to the long-term vision of TYPO3. Each summarized idea with a brief explanation of their strategic impact.
- TEAM IDEA: Update the Educational Sitepackage Extension and Tutorial for TYPO3 v14. Implemented by Karsten Nowak and mentored by Lina Wolf. (Budget: €5,000)
The official Sitepackage learning materials should be fully updated for TYPO3 v14. This includes all code examples, configuration, and documentation to provide newcomers and trainers with a modern, consistent, and easy-to-follow starting point. This avoids confusion caused by outdated v13 content and makes getting started with TYPO3 significantly easier.
- Fluid Developer Experience by Simon Praetorius (Budget: €10,000)
This idea aims to improve Fluid development with three steps: add component autocompletion, create an official VSCode extension, and build a language server for advanced IDE support. The first step is research and prototyping to guide further development.
- Content Blocks JSON Schema / YAML Linter by Nikita Hovratov (Budget: €10,000)
Currently, Content Blocks configuration files aren’t validated, which can lead to errors from typos or incorrect setups. The existing JSON Schema is outdated and needs updating to cover all options, after which it can be used to implement a linter command.
- EXT:seal Ecosystem Expansion — Advanced Search & AI Vector Integration by Tim Lochmüller (Budget: €7,500)
This idea builds on the existing Search Engine Abstraction Layer (seal) work and related extensions Index (index) and SEAL Search AI (seal_ai). Based on community feedback, the goal is to further enhance and professionalize the TYPO3 search ecosystem around SEAL.
The winners will start to work on their projects on 1 February. They will be supported by the Business Control Committee (BCC). The people responsible for each idea project will report about their progress at typo3.org. If they succeed, they will be paid their allotted budget.
From the BCC’s point of view, all ideas would have been worth funding. Having a look at the voting results, we do see favorites, but the results in the main field are very close and a few more votes could have changed the overall results.
The results of the previous budgets are already published at typo3.org. In the following weeks results of all selected budgets will be published.
